If you know your Marvel Comics, you'll know that Bruce Banner turns into the Incredible Hulk once he becomes angry. In the TV series, he would actually say
on't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry!
Israel and more specifically her armed forces have done a spot on Hulk impersonation. In response to rocket attacks by Hamas ,Israel has unleashed the full might of her military on Gaza. The figures speaks for themeselves, well over 1,000 Palestinians killed and opposed the 13 Israelis killed by Hamas's rockets.Israel has effectively done a Dresden on Gaza if I can use a World War Two analogy.
What has this war actually achieved?
I saw the Israelis Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on TV telling the people of Gaza( I shit you not)that Israel was not their enemy.!!!
Israel has created new enemies, it has ensured that Hamas has a vast pool of recruits willing to attack her in the future. Worst of all, it has added more fuel to the cycle of hate. More people will see violence and terror as the only way to end the occupation.Hamas has not been destroyed, it can't be as it's not just a military organisation. It's a political voice for the Palestinians. At some point, Hamas and Fatah will have to join forces and talk to Israel. Fighter jets and rockets will not solve this problem. No amount of military power will create a lasting peace while the Palestinians are still under occupation.
Barack Obama may be about the inherit the in tray from Hell, but this issue has be to addded to his tasks. Only a fully engaged America can cut through the Gordian Knot that this problem can become. George Bush was so blatantly pro Israel , that any serious peace effort was not viable especially when he became absorbed into the War on Terror.
The stakes are just too high.

With Obama putting an Israeli Rahm Emanuel in the Whitehouse and with Hilary Clinton universally loathed by so much of the Muslim world we should see some real changes in the Middle East........
