The US Presidential elections are almost almost over-thank God!I cannot recall an election that has dominated the news.You have to go back to 1968 to find a more fascinating Presidential election.
It has been a historic year, but Christ, it goes on and on.In our lifetime, we are watching something historic. Unless we are all mistaken, Barack Obama is going to win.
The elections gives us an opportunity to marvel and laugh at the United States at the same time. We can be amazed that an black man is within touching distance of the White House.We would see this in no other country on Earth.We can marvel at the audacity of a man who is relatively inexperienced taking down Hilary Clinton( and her husband), who was the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party. That man has balls!!!!
We can laugh at the Yanks because there are some seriously ignorant people who fear Obama. I heard one woman say that he was a Muslim, another said that she feared that he was going to make all white people slaves!!!Let's face it, he has messed with a lot of people's view of the world. A Black President-the prospect scares them! Let no one doubt that the USA is a country with serious racial problems.We can also laugh at someone like Governor Sarah Palin, who is clearly not qualified to be Vice President. She's admitted that she has only recently got a passport!Say what?????
My fear for Obama is not assassination , but that he will win, but some Republicans will contest the result claiming fraud in some states. We then get a reverse of Florida 2000, with the whole thing being contested in courts.
This has been and will be a history making year.
